What the heo? A height requirement for an English teaching position?

Job Requirement
- Bachelor of Arts or higher, majoring in English (graduates from HCMC University of Pedagogy, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Open University, HCMC University of Foreign Languages & Information Technology, Hoa Sen University, and Van Lang University preferred)
- Certificates (TESOL, TEFL, CELTA or equivalent)
- Good pronunciation and speaking is a must
- Some teaching experience is required; two years’ experience or more is a plus
- Age: from 22 to 45
- Height:
o Male: 163 cm and over
o Female: 153 cm and over
- Professional appearance and attitude

Andrea Yuki email them anyway and ask them why the height stipulation, Im really interested in their answer. Tell them you have no legs, but have a masters in English and 20 years experience and CELTA LOL

Troy Sincock Lol I would probably get a reply that goes something like "Thank you for your interest in this position, unfortunately due to your inability to be at or above our height requirement you can't successfully fulfill the position requirements as only tall teachers can speak English. If you can have your legs put back on then that would be a great advantage"

Andrea Yuki They have height and weight restrictions for cabin crew though and they are professional. Plus they make you wear way too much makeup and heels for what is essentially an airborn waitress and a silly scarf.

Ben Robinson Cabin Crew needs to be skinny enough to get up the aisles and tall enough to reach the overhead storage, it makes sense

TQ Hoàng I think it SHOULD exist. As an almost-midget, I don't want to ask for help with my carry-on and get answer like "Hold on let me get you someone who can actually reach the overhead cabin because I'm too short."

• At least 21 years of age at the time of joining
• Arm reach of 212 cm while standing on tiptoes
• High school graduate (Grade 12)
• Fluency in English (Written and Spoken)
• No visible tattoos while in Emirates Cabin Crew uniform (cosmetic and bandage coverings not permitted)
• Physically fit to meet the Emirates Cabin Crew requirements

Jake Catlett So you think that discrimination based on height is acceptable? You wouldn't mind sending your kid to school that hires teachers due to height and not level of experience? And no, it's definitely not for Westerners only, it's for Vietnamese. Look at the list of universities they say they will accept graduates from.

Danny Nguyen The round eyes definitely get preferred treatment when it comes to teaching english and even if.your a foreign born.vietnamese you get discriminated against haha once again boiling down to judging a book.by.its cover and.valuing what potential customers to your school may think if you've got yellow skins working there.
