Mocked on ASOV

OMG hes at it again , Trouble at circle K
And I know this will cause a fuss within this group , it may even be pulled , But I will let you guys decide and discuss about this
A Circle K Vietnam female staff said that she wanted to practice English with me in September 2014 at 167 Ton Dan, Q.4, TP.HCM. However, at about 6 AM today,...

  • 5 people like this.
  • Jim Cathcart I blame it on Western society. This social oddity would have benefited from a roughing up in his upbringing. Poor cops are forced intro restraint and probably confused about what this dweeb is doing.
  • Jason Ovenden I have Circle-K, B's Mart, One Stop and Shop 24 all very close to my place in Q5 and the staff are always willing to practice their english! Not once have the police been called! There is obviously something else going on here (well, Duh, it's oatmeal, of course there is something else going on that he isn't telling you...)
  • Ishida Thanh Joey is back!
  • Hoang Jm funny how that staff call the police just for a small thing
  • Sio Hock Chuan What else has Joey done?
  • Jim Cathcart The staff may have felt that they were being harassed. Who knows? It would have been good if someone had been present, told him to grow up, and stop annoying people.
  • Micah Gurley never heard of this guy before, hard to believe he's for real
  • John Campbell That voice ... can't be real
  • Dan Kings He's a bit like an annoying, somewhere on the Asperger's spectrum, Keyser Soze. Always here but always disappearing into the crowd to go and annoy the hell out of someone else.
  • Jim Cathcart I think that this guy is not the full quid and my comments are probably too harsh. He may need help and I am not sure that the support he may need is easily accessible in Vietnam.
  • Jason Ovenden "Things are afoot at the Circle K" Isn't tat from Bill & Ted?
  • Jim Cathcart Dan, that is a good assumption, but it is a concern that he might get himself into serious trouble if people do not understand that he may have trouble with communication.
  • Brice Belian You freaked her out man !
  • Ellie Thuy Tran "A Circle K Vietnam female staff said that she wanted to practice English with me in September 2014 at 167 Ton Dan, Q.4, TP.HCM.

However, at about 6 AM today, as I was buying noodles, I tried to give her a compliment and she told me to "Hurry up sir."

She did not want to talk to me. She just wanted my money. I only wanted to say the following THREE WORDS: "You are happy" but she said that she does not like me. (2014-10-08: Wed: 6:46 AM)

This is bad service. I am very angry. I am a writer from America. I want her to be fired. She is a bad staff member at Circle K. She treated me like dirt. She discriminates against me."

    Taken from his youtube.

Sounds like he annoyed the girl and when she failed telling him to get out she called the police.

So I checked his facebook, google him(http://goo.gl/9iUtRg) and watched couple of his videos. Very odd. then later on I joined ASOV then I learn the legendary Oatmeal. Also, he contacted me couple more times under different facebook account, same name. I wonder why? perhaps he got reported too many times, Facebook shut down his accounts?

  • Ellie Thuy Tran He has no crime record(I assume) , so nothing prevented him from extend his visa. What baffled me was how the visa officer let him extend it? Gosh they were so hard on International Student.
anyways, with this incident, perhaps (I hope) the police will put a mark on his record!? then may be after a year a so then our dream becomes true?
Also, I just visited his blog again and there is a post about him getting called out a pedophile on ASOV ...

  • Jim Cathcart It's not about endangering other people. I suspect he's not capable of that. It's more about his own safety. There was an incident in Hanoi where a deranged foreigner caused the death of a Vietnamese motorcycle driver, but this guy was likely to be delusional or schizophrenic. Joey just seems to be oddly eccentric which could be related to Aspergers. He doesn't appear to be a threat to anyone, but it is possible that others might harm him. And that is not good.

  • Ian Wilson Jonathan Barlow - " He needs to go now. We don't need people like that giving foreigners a bad image of being troublemakers." 100% agree ! It's still unknown how he managed to slip past VN Customs and Immigration this time. Or, for that matter, he was able to even get any type of visa at all considering the number of complains (allegedly) lodged against him with the Embassy of the United States in Sai Gon by other expats.

  • Jim Cathcart Immigration is not assigned to evaluate behavior nor does the U.S. Embassy have the power or authority to stop someone getting a visa, even if he has committed crimes in the U.S. His behavior in Vietnam has nothing to do with the U.S. govt. If he is suffering from mental illness, I would expect that the Embassy could support him in his safe return to the U.S.

  • Ellie Thuy Tran Is anyone in ASOV work for/know someone from embassy? Judging the popular of the group or even the connection betweem foreigners, I thought everyone knows about Joey already? Why they still allow his stay in Nam?

  • Ellie Thuy Tran Do foreigners have to report medical record to embassy? If you have mental illness and travel alone, how can you get visa?

  • Jim Cathcart His employer can terminate his contract if he is troublesome to the business. I would think that being arrested would be grounds for terminating a contract, but that depends on what the employer thinks and the terms of the contract.
Psychological assessment is not part of getting a visa.

VN girls generally handle creepy western guys quite well here and have a high tolerance for that sort of behaviour I find, they certainly wouldn't have called the police if he wasn't doing something pretty bad...

It's all very well giving people the benefit of the doubt about sympathy for potential conditions, but there appears to be a recurring behavioral pattern. Typically, this usually ends up in a negative outcome for the individual involved.

  • Martin Körner The video begins than when the police is already here. We dont know what happened before. I must say, since I live in Vietnam never ever someone called the police when I talked to them. Sometimes I was quite rough on the staff mainly due to very poor service and being myself a bit grumpy but again it never escalated to the point where the police is being called. The guy in the video also makes a creepy impression on me, a bit psycho. Maybe he was wandering around in circle K like Gollum scaring the shit out of the poor staff and than approaching the cashier very close and saying face to face "You - are - nice" with this wicked smile on his face. Gosh, no wonder they called police....
