    Joey!
You really need to think more about your actions in public. You must remember that not all people in Vietnam and want to talk to you. The moment you receive any negative energy from a person you should walk away otherwise you will get into trouble like you did at circle K.
There are a lot of negative expats here in HCM city, most of them you should ignore. Keep doing what you enjoy but be more mindful of people's feelings around you.

You said that I should think more about my actions in public but I do already and I cannot stress that enough and emphasize that enough. I am a perfectionist and I am a deep thinker and I know what I am doing and I think long and hard about everythingthat I do and I do already think more than enough or even too much about people and about me and about so many things and I evaluate and analyze everything..............
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
    that's great
I would suggest when you get these feelings again in a situation with others involved. Instead of reacting with impulse and your head step away from the situation and evaluate it from a distance
being a deep thinker and analyzing things is not a bad thing at all
as long as it doesnt lead to paranoia

I told people that the police were mean to me. I posted a video about it. What I did was the least I could do. They were discriminating against me. The other day, an American at a park saw me and said that I was that guy that stole from Circle K, but I did not steal anything.
I don't react with feelings like that
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
we live in communist Vietnam.. it's dangerous to speak in a negative light about the police
especially making a video and sharing it on a social network
would the police of been called if you took a step back, left circle k and evaluated it in your own time?
instead, you went with your natural reactions (not analyzed) which led to misunderstanding and miscommunication between you and the circle k staff
which in turn got the police involved and turned things from bad to worse
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
The staff at Circle K were yelling at me and then they called the police on me because they did nto like me
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
as soon as they started getting irriated at you you should of left Joey
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
I tried to leave but the police would not let me leave
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
they called the police didnt they?
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
I was eating noodles at Circle K: I was eating my breakfast there
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
you had time to leave before the police were called
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
the manager called the police because he did not liked me
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
so the moment you were aware he was not happy you should of left before the police arrived
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
what the manager did was wrong and I did not think that the police would be that dumb
the police should realize what was really happening
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
and again, you were aware the female staff member was unhappy with you before the manager was involved
even at that point you could of left the store
    again, we are in Vietnam
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
she was not suppose to be unhappy
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
The Vietnamese police are not well traind like American police
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
she told me before that she loves ENglish and she use to practice English with me
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
what do you mean? She is not allowed to express her emotions?
well maybe she was having a bad day?
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
I thought I was her friend and she would talk to me in English before
I had real conversations with her
and I did not ask for a lot
I did not ask for a conversation
I just wanted an answer to my question and she refused to answer my question
    she was being unprofessional
and I believe that clerks shouldn't do that to customers
    cashiers
    I am Rosa Parks
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
    was your question business related?
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
That video does not show you everything
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
it shows me that it wasn't business related
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
    no
    wrong
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
im just saying what I see Joey..
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
what you see is not everything
I did not record what happened
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
'I just wanted to say three words to the girl who works here'
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
I did not record the interaction between me and the Circle K staff and with the police as well
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
'I just wanted to say you are happy'
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
Right, I was going to say that to her but then I did not say that to her because she interupted me before I said anything
but I did not record that part
but she interupted me as if I was going to talk for five hours
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
so at that point why did you not leave?
    I'm just curious
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
    because she was wrong
you should not do that to customers
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
    wrong about what Joey?
    do what to customers Joey?
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
    you should listen to customers
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
your point was not business related
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
    customers are always right
it could have been business related
    it is business related
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
yes that expression is correct in sales and service
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
    hapiness brings in more business
    service with a smile
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
that is not your responsibility to manage
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
if you smile, you will bring in more customers
therefore, I was going to compliment
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
everything you say is true, but it is not your concern
    not here
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
    I can stil bring feedback
    businesses have feedback boxes
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
yes, but it is up to them if they wish to listen or not
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
    they invite feedback
if they do not listen, they suck
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
    you're right, they have BOXES
    absolutely, you're right
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
but you can also talk a little as well
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
    but we live in Vietnam..
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
I was not asking for a bunch of time
    and she wanted it before
    she changed her mind
all she had to say was, "I changed my mind"
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
    changed her mind about what?
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
if her English was lacking, her manager could have translated her thoughts to me but he refused to
before, she wanted to practice English with me but she seem to have rejected that idea at that point
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
again, he doesn't have to do that
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
    he almost did
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
that has nothing to do with circle K..
teaching her English is a private matter
you should not of raised that in her place of work
where her boss expects her to be professional
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
because I had a good conversation with him after that and before he had the police come and I thought he was listening to me but then he stabed me in the back
it is not exactly a private matter
I did not raise it up to her in the first place
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
it is Joey, your relationship with her has nothing to do with circle k
Circle K is a service to buy products
    not talk about English
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
she raised it up with me originally a month before the police came and she practice English with me many times before October 2014
cashiers need to learn how to talk in English to the customers
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
listen, I'm not here to argue with you. I agree with most things you say but as I mentioned to begin with you have to just accept things wont be as you want and walk away..
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
    you are wrong
it is not about learning English
it is about talking to the customers
    customers want interaction
customers are more likely to buy if you talk to them
if you are rude to the customers, then the customers will leave
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
Circle K is a 24 hour chain, they don't rely on great customer service
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
she gave me the cold shoulder
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
they are not selling holidays or expensive products
    they are a convenience store
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
that is not an excuse for abuse
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
I dont think you were abused by circle k..
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
they are required to say hello to every customer that comes into the store
and they say hello to people when they come in
my biggest problem is in the reaction of the tall man, the manager
because I thought that he cared but then he turned into Bowser
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
Joey if you are to have a successful, peaceful, happy stay in Vietnam just take a step back whenever you can
that's all I want to say
your intentions are good and you mean well
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
    it hapened so fast
    very fast
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
but I must be honest, I do worry a bit about your safety
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
    what I learn,is that I can't trust Vietnamese
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
because some Vietnamese people are very bad people
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
I don't trust Vietnamese any more
I try not to fight as much now as before
I might roll my eyes a little
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
and if they misunderstand you and you dont walk away you migjt get into more trouble
and I dont want that to happen
  • Joey Arnold
    Joey Arnold
but I try not to believe in things when Vietnamese promise me things
if somebody promises me things now, I just say ok....
but I am not going to hold them to it now
I may walk away more often nowadays, but that destroys my heart
  • Michael Bones
    Michael Bones
that's a good attitude to take
